Christmas is coming, and what better way to get in the holiday spirit than with a spot of Christmas baking! This week I've been scouring the interwebs on a quest to find the best Christmas dog treat recipes, so here are some of my favourites that I want to share with you. Have fun baking! I can't wait to give these recipes a try myself!
1. No Bake Banana and Carob Snowball Christmas Dog Treats
I love chocolate truffles, but of course, our dogs can't have them because they contain chocolate, so I was excited to find this dog-friendly recipe for snowball dog treats byDalmation DIY. They are cute and easy to make, requiring no baking, and the base recipe only requires four ingredients.
The recipe mentions unsweetened rice bubble/crisp cereal and fine desiccated coconut as optional extras. For healthier alternatives, look for puffed brown rice at your nearest health food store, which you can use to replace the rice bubble/crisp cereal if you include it. You could even try rolling your treats in carob powder for a range of different finishes.
2. Mini Gingerbread Man Christmas Dog Treats
There is nothing more Christmassy than the smell of gingerbread. These mini gingerbread man dog treats byBarkley Doodlesare adorable. The recipe also includes a yoghurt and coconut oil icing that you can use to decorate your gingerbread men.
3. Turkey Xmas Tree Christmas Dog Treats
Finding suitable Christmas dog treats for dogs with food allergies, intolerances or sensitivities can be challenging. These turkey Christmas trees byLittle Dog Tipsare so versatile. The ingredients can be substituted with others as required making them ideal for all.
This recipe does take 12 hours because it uses a dehydrator, but the wait will be worth it. If you don't have a dehydrator, an oven can achieve the same result; however, check what temperatures and times to use before starting.
4. Golden Gummy Stars and Frozen Coconut Oil Snowman Christmas Dog Treats
This recipe byDalmation DIYcontains not just one but two recipes! Both recipes are easy to make and use minimal ingredients.
The golden gummy stars look almost good enough for us humans to eat.
The recipe calls for powdered gelatin, turmeric powder and homemade or ready-made chicken stock, i.e.bone broth. The frozen coconut oil snowman dog treats feature a coconut oil snowman body with a cool little carob hat.
Both dog treat recipes use silicone moulds to shape them so you can get creative and make any shapes you choose.
5. Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Biscuits with Greek Yoghurt Icing
These fun Christmas dog treats byHabits of a Modern Hippiecombine the classic flavours of peanut butter and pumpkin. You can even use different cookie cutters to create a range of Christmas themed shapes.
The recipe also includes instructions for dog-friendly icing that you can use to decorate your biscuits. Finish off with a light dusting of your favourite dog-friendly topping.
6. Minty Carob Bonbons
This recipe byCanine Compilationcontains not one but two recipes! One for the dogs and one for the hoomans - minty carob liver bonbons for them and chocolate peppermint bonbons for you. Be very careful not to mix them up, though!
7. Turkey, Sage & Cranberry Dog Biscuits
These dog biscuits byMoorlands Eatercombine the classic Christmas dinner flavours of turkey, sage and cranberry. This recipe contains all-natural ingredients and makes approximately 40 biscuits.
8. Puppuccino and Hot Dogolate
You always know Christmas is here when your favourite coffee shop releases its Christmas themed hot drinks, and thanks to this recipe byDalmation DIY, our furry friends can get involved too with these "puppucinos" and "hot dogolates".
These cute holiday drinks are simple to make and use frothy milk as a base. You can then finish them off by adding a light dusting of carob powder or Ceylon cinnamon. However, this is an optional extra.
9. Doggy Eggnog Recipe
Eggnog is a traditional Christmas drink usually served during the holiday season but is reserved just for hoomans.. until now! Why not make your dog their very own dog-friendly version so you can both enjoy sipping on a glass of eggnog this Christmas.
This "dognog" recipe byLola the Pittyis straightforward and takes just 5 minutes to make. Please note that this recipe uses raw eggs; however, the recipe states they can be left out if you are not comfortable feeding raw eggs to your dog.
